Jeff Ithier

Engineering Lead, Tech Lead

Making his way from Melbourne, Australia, to the heart of Germany, Jeff brings a unique global viewpoint to the team.

His academic foundation consists of a double degree in Mathematics and Physics (Science) and Computer Systems (Engineering) from Monash University, where his thesis project explored Computer Vision applications for robotics.

Following his studies, Jeff relocated to Germany to pursue automotive engineering, starting at Bosch with a focus on connectivity applications for automated vehicles. His work involved investigating vehicle-to-cloud, vehicle-to-vehicle, and vehicle-to-infrastructure technologies. During this period, he recognized the crucial need for a high-performance next-generation IPC mechanism.

This insight led him to join the development of iceoryx, where he implemented the first gateway extension using DDS communication, extending the communication capabilities beyond a single host. From this work emerged what would become his primary technical focus and passion. As he notes, "while moving data between points in a system may seem straightforward, the depth of IPC technology continues to present fascinating challenges and never ceases to be interesting".

Beyond his technical work, Jeff has developed a strong interest in languages. His move to Germany prompted the acquisition of German as his first additional language, sparking an unexpected passion. Having achieved a level of fluency in German, he has now set his sights on Japanese, pursuing similar proficiency through dedicated daily practice.
